We Rise by Lifting Others…

Each month as the Thursday before Market rolls around and I look around, sometimes in complete wonder of the talent around me, I am humbled by the people I get to call coworkers and friends. I am proud to be a small business owner and I am honored to assist an amazing group of people as they show off their talent and hard work. Secretly though, I am so excited to be part of a rather large group of women entrepreneurs. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love the MEN of Seaglass just as much as the women and the second I am unsure of anything the first person I turn to is my partner, who also happens to be my husband. I am not afraid to say, “I can’t lift this, it’s too heavy” or “I have no idea how to do THAT, let me get Brad, (Kevin, John or Gene)” but I am also not afraid to give anything a shot, whether it be to climb over or crawl under something or learn how to use a power tool. I’m far from a feminist, but I sure ain’t no damsel in distress either. I guess I’m a 50 year old tomboy who loves what she does and enjoys learning new things from people of all walks of life. I believe Seaglass Salvage Market allows me to be just that. (How lucky am I?!)

There are 31 people currently involved in setting up the warehouse each month, 28 of them are women. Call us what you will #bosslady #momtrepreneur #girlboss but there is one thing that keeps us going, that helps us grow each month and gives us the strength to continue. Positive support from within. Last year (possibly the year before?!) Heidi, with Serendipity Jewelry, and I sat and talked and went over what the mission of Seaglass Salvage Market is, I’ve shared it before, but I will share it again…as it still holds true.

We are not individuals selling within the same building, we are a group, we stand strong as a community of people who uplift and support one another. My goal as a business owner is to create a place where vendors and customers walk in and FEEL the love…sounds corny, doesn’t it? Our vibe is as important to be as making money. My husband say’s I will never be rich, and I agree, but I tell ya what, I’m happy!

Life changed quickly for me last year, my priorities shifted. I learned what is truly important and the term “Don’t sweat the small stuff” made more sense to me then any other cliche I’ve said all my life. The one thing that has been constant for me is the support, kindness and understanding from the amazing group of people I am lucky enough to be surrounded by. A large part of that group is my Seaglass family. The women (and men) who hold me up, the women (and men) who I proudly stand behind as well.

As I stood at Capt’n Bills on September 30th I was overwhelmed by the kindness and generous of family, friends and strangers. As I stood in the parking lot looking at 4 figures walking towards me and felt the warmth of familiarity come over me as I recognized my High School friends, girlfriends of 35 years, who traveled from NY to surprise me. As I watched my daughter and her partner play volleyball and laugh and enjoy the day with my stepson. As we called out raffle winner after raffle winner for the amazing items donated by so many fabulous local businesses and as I looked around and saw so many happy familiar faces, a lot of Seaglass faces, I realized how unbelievably blessed I am.

I wanted to thank the women who stand next to me and behind me and let them know how honored I am to be part of this awesome crew (and I love the added bonus of the creative men who stand with us.)

Looking forward to see what goodness will fill the warehouse at the November Market! We certainly hope to see you there November 17th, 18th and 19th.

See you next month!
