Looking for a Change?

My husband and I built our first home together before we married. We picked a lovely model, tweaked it to our liking and waited, with excited anticipation, for the home we would start our new life in. I immediately began designing our home in my head…colors, fabrics, focal pieces, even tiny details for the built in bookcases (that still ceased to exist). While my future husband focused on the foundation and dry wall he told me I was CRAZY and could start “decorating” when the walls were up and the floors were down.

Silly, Silly man!

I bet 50% of our furniture and accessories was purchased before the builders were done framing the house, we were completely done before we closed. I don’t think there was one piece we regretting buying as we placed them all and made the NEW house OUR home. Artwork and accent pieces were purchased on weekend getaways or day trips, sweet memories, which today (almost 4 years later), still make me smile when I look at them. My husband was just as pleased as I was with our beautiful choices, I remember him saying, “I love it, I’m good for the next 20 years!” *WAIT, WHAT?!?!?* (I told you he was a silly, silly man!)

I get bored, and need change. Not a complete overhaul, just a change. Luckily, I know myself very well and have learned a few “tricks” over the years. One of the most important being…go very neutral in color on walls and furniture…add your pops of color with decor… throw pillows, curtains, table cloths and floral pieces for example. When I get bored, or tired of my current accent color, I switch it up. It’s quick, simple and INEXPENSIVE. When Brad and I started our accent color was RED, it is currently GRAY (with several touches of WHITE). He’s good for the next 20 years again, I however, give myself another 3 (tops!)motivational-quotes-about-change

One of the reasons I love the variety at Seaglass is because sometimes we all need a little change, but we don’t want to spend our savings to achieve a new “look.” There are so many options at SSM to quickly makeover a space. Adding color, height, texture or incorporating the current season into you home decor can give a room a fresh, updated look. Buying an original piece of art, that speaks to you, directly from the artist themselves is a wonderful experience and hearing the story behind a beautiful vintage piece can help you choose perfect little accent pieces to create a meaningful vignette in your home. Your decor should be an extension of yourself, and we all change over the years don’t we?

Paint can also pull different styles together…which is why I am a fan of painted furniture. I have very eclectic tastes and I am not afraid to mix and match styles when I can make them work by simply painting them the same or complimentary colors. Did you know there are currently two vendors selling paint each market? However, if you are not a DIYer, you can find what you’re looking for done and ready to go!  It certainly doesn’t hurt that each vendor sets up gorgeous vignettes so you can see what the piece will look like in a “homey” atmosphere rather than in a bright, impersonal showroom. Our vendors love having the one on one with each customer and it makes us happy to know where the pieces we “saved” will be going. It really is a unique experience for the customers and vendors alike.
We hope you find what you’re looking for at SSM each month and enjoy the change from the typical shopping experience while your picking out unique pieces to bring something fun and new to your home.

*Don’t forget, we aren’t ALL about Home Furnishing and Decor…there is a little bit of everything and something for everyone! Hope to see you THIS weekend.

Kelli 🙂
