I know Mother’s and Father’s Day, Christmas, Easter, New Years and Thanksgiving. I’ve got most birthdays memorized, but International Day of Happiness?, thats a new one even for me. But what an awesome idea!
The pursuit of happiness has been recognized as a right in the United States since the country’s inception, but in 2011, the United Nations acknowledged happiness as a “universal goal and aspiration”. A vote was taken and March 20th was declared International Day of Happiness.
Happiness should be denied to no one, and available to all. International Day of Happiness is therefore a chance to remind the entire global community that the well-being of people does not depend solely on the gross domestic product of their nation. It goes much deeper. So this year, don’t just let the reminder come and go, strive to be happy for a lifetime.
Here are 5 steps to happiness by Vanessa King.
Giving-Do things for others. And it’s not always about the money, give your time, energy and ideas. So if you want to feel good, do good.
Relaxing-Connect with people. Relationships are one of the most important keys to happiness. So take action to strengthen the ones that you have and take time to make new ones.
Exercising-Take care of your body. Our body and our minds are connected. Exercise instantly improves your mood. While you’re at it, unplug from techology, get outside and also make sure you get enough sleep.
Appreciating-Notice the world around you.Ever think that there is more to life. Well, hello, there is and it’s right out in front of you. Take time to be mindful.
Meaning-Be a part of something bigger. People who have meaning and purpose in their life are happier, feel more in control and get more out of what they do. It’s different for everyone, it could come from religious faith, being a parent or doing a job that makes a difference. But the bottom line is, that it’s all about being connected to something bigger than ourselves.
