Smiles for Dawson

“Listen once in a while.  It’s amazing what you can hear.”

                         ~Russell Baker~

If I had not been truly listening, I would have missed what one of our vendors does outside of being a mother, working full time, being an artist and being a wife. She gives back to the community.

Marie Walker, her son Garret, and their adorable golden-doodle Dawson make people smile! What a great job; bringing smiles and laughter into the lives of children and adults with special needs.

Completing “Therapy Dog” training and the “Canine Good Citizen” test were accomplishments, but watching the reaction of the people that get “Dawson kisses” well, that’s just priceless! says Marie.

Garret has been working with Dawson and teaching him to “lap”. A gentle tug on the collar and he lays across the lap of a person in a wheel chair, so they too can get, up close and personal with this goofy haired wonder.  Dawson’s resume reads like a pro;  Miracle Field, Camp Shriver, fundraisers and events.

Marie is not only giving back to the community, but in my opinion is also teaching her son valuable life lessons.  And did I mention that Marie was also named “2013 Volunteer Of The Year” with Canines for Service? Congratulation Marie, Garret and Dawson…we are applauding loudly!
